DeKalb Youth Police Academy Event Rescheduled
The DeKalb County Police Department was supposed to hold its first-ever youth academy Saturday, but it's been rescheduled to July.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The DeKalb County Police Department has rescheduled its first youth academy from this weekend to later this summer.
The one-day, in-person event was initially scheduled for June 19, but is now set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24 and is free to attend. Academy attendees will learn how the DeKalb County Police Department works; be given an overview of the department's various units, including K9, Bomb, SWAT and Crime Scene units; and learn what to do when they encounter police.

DeKalb County youth age 14-17 can apply to be part of the event.
"I think it is important for our youth to have dialogue with their local police," DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha V. Ramos said in a news release. "We want them to learn about us as we learn about them and hear their concerns."

The event will still take place at 2484 Bruce St. in Lithonia.
