DeKalb's Suburban Plaza Wins Redevelopment Award

Suburban Plaza in DeKalb County has won a major award for the design of its upcoming redevelopment.
The 2016 Regional Redevelopment Award was presented to local officials at the Metro Atlanta Redevelopment Summit on Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The annual summit brings together more than 200 developers, commercial real estate brokers, elected officials, business leaders and community development experts to discuss industry trends in the metro Atlanta area.

“Redevelopment plays a major role in the vitality and prosperity of our region,” Gwinnett County commission chair Charlotte Nash said, thanking judges for the award.

In addition, Midtown's 1.2-square-mile commercial district was just named one of 5 Great Places in America by the American Planning Association (APA). Midtown's unique historic architecture, focus on environmental sustainability and special community events like Music Midtown helped the area get chosen for the accolade.
The Midtown Alliance will host an outdoor pop-up community party at 10th Street and Peachtree Street on Tuesday at 4 p.m., when Mayor Kasim Reed will accept the award from the APA.
