GBI IDs Man Shot By Police In Suspected Kidnapping
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man shot and killed by police in a suspected kidnapping incident and car chase Tuesday.
DECATUR, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning.
Chamblee Police Department officers requested the GBI's assistance in investigating the shooting earlier this week. A 911 caller had informed Chamblee officers that a friend was kidnapped by a man with a gun, and provided a description of the car as well as the victim's clothing.
Chamblee police were able to find the car using this description and attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver — now identified as Tyrone Perry, 21, of Lithonia — sped away and CPD officers chased him into Decatur.

Perry eventually crashed, got out of the car and ran onto the railroad tracks near West Howard Avenue while officers chased him on foot. According to a GBI press release, officers attempted to use a stun gun on him during the foot pursuit, but it was ineffective.
Chamblee officers met Perry on the railroad tracks and fired their guns during the encounter, hitting him. He died from his injuries at a local hospital, the release said. An autopsy will be performed at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office.

"The GBI will continue to conduct an independent investigation and upon completion, the case will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office for review," per the GBI release.
The victim suspected to be kidnapped is safe and not physically hurt, GBI agents said.
