Hurricane Irma: Residents Urged To Sign Up For CodeRED In DeKalb

As Hurricane Irma, threatens the coast, DeKalb residents are being urged to sign up for emergency contact system CodeRed.

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County officials are encouraging residents to sign up for an emergency communications system as Hurricane Irma veers dangerously close to Georgia. Officials are closely monitoring Irma, working with local agencies to ensure that the government is ready to respond.

DeKalb residents and stakeholders should sign up for CodeRED, "a system used to call, email or text in the event of an emergency or severe weather warning," the county said. Notifications are based on the location that users imput when registering in the system.

DeKalb said that all information put in by residents is kept private. Citizens can sign up at www.dekalbcountyga.gov by clicking CodeRED at the top of the home page.

The county also said that all citizens should have a basic emergency preparedness kit and plans to take account of all family members and pets. For more information, visit www.ready.ga.gov or www.ready.gov/make-a-plan.

Meanwhile in Atlanta, the Atlanta Humane Society is taking in around 90 animals from their counterparts in St. Cloud, Florida as the monster storm beckons.
