In Loving Memory of Harley F. Drury, Jr., 89

Mr. Harley F. Drury, Jr. born, VT 1925. Moved to Atlanta, via Houston, TX aged 8, graduated Decatur Boys High in 1942. Enrolled in the University of Texas in petroleum engineering. Drafted in 1943 and served in the Navy until the end of the World War II, on the battleship USS Alabama. He returned to the University of Texas, finished his degree and started his “dream job” drilling for oil in the Saudi desert.
After college, Harley met Emily Lowe Pope – the love of his life – and they were married in 1951 in Decatur. The couple relocated to Saudi Arabia where they started a family and lived until 1960.
After 10 years in Saudi, he and his family returned to DeKalb County where Harley started his teaching career. He taught many subjects, from higher math to social studies, and coached soccer and cross country at Tucker High School until retiring in 1987. Throughout this time, he actively supported and volunteered in various civic and community organizations and activities.

He is survived by his loving wife Emily Pope Drury, son Harley F. Drury, III, son and daughter-in-law John and Mollie Drury, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Catie and Chris Dunning, and granddaughters Sarah, Rosie, Remmie and Cloe Drury.
Memorial services will be held at Snellville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at 2pm with a visitation following immediately afterwards.
