More Than 4,000 Manholes To Be Replaced On DeKalb's Roads
DeKalb will replace more than 4,000 manholes on area streets, the county says.

DECATUR, GA -- More than 4,000 sewer manholes will be replaced in DeKalb, the county announced Tuesday. The new manholes will be completely sealed and be able to block rainwater and debris from entering the county's sewer system.
The county began the replacement work in June and expects to be finished by year's end. Sewer overflows have become a priority for the county's Department of Watershed Management as well as DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond, DeKalb said. Area businesses and residents can help the effort in a number of ways, including never pouring grease or oil down drains or toilets; placing food scraps into the trash, rather than putting them down drains. Residents can also help by cleaning up excess grease by using a paper towel and properly disposing of it.
