New Supermarket Chain, Lidl, Approved By DeKalb Commissioners
DeKalb commissioners approved a proposal to build a new supermarket owned by the national German chain Lidl.
DEKALB, GA — A new grocery store will come to DeKalb County. The national German chain Lidl shared the news in a statement with Patch Friday.
“We are in the early approvals phase for a store in DeKalb County, but I can tell you we do intend to open a store there,” said spokesperson Chandler Ebeier. “We look forward to growing our presence in Georgia and introducing our high quality products and low prices to more communities in the future.”
DeKalb commissioners unanimously approved on Tuesday zoning plans for the proposed 29,000-square-foot store, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Lidl will be built at the Parkview Station shopping center on Memorial Drive, near Kirkwood and East Lake, according to county zoning documents obtained by the AJC.

The vacant Pizza Hut will be demolished to create space for the new store, reports the news outlet. DeKalb was identified in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a low-income area where many residents don’t have access to a close supermarket.
