Owner To Sell North DeKalb Mall, Poised For Mixed-Use Development

Sterling Organization, owner of North DeKalb Mall, is planning to sell the mall to a developer to turn it into a mixed-use development.

North DeKalb Mall was once home to a Macy's location, but that store has since closed. The mall has since become known as a filming location rather than a bustling retail hub, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — North DeKalb Mall might turn into a mixed-use development, according to two DeKalb County commissioners.

Sterling Organization, the investment company that owns North DeKalb Mall, is taking bids on the mall's sale, Commissioners Jeff Rader and Ted Terry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In 2018, Sterling announced plans to redesign the mall around a Costco, hotel and housing units, the AJC reported. Rader said he's talked to several developers who've shown interest in the mall, but a potential buyer has yet to be finalized.

Rader and Terry said they expect future plans to include a residential component and revitalize retail interest in the mall, which currently houses several vacant storefronts. Terry saiud he wants the county commissioners to be involved throughout the planning stages with whatever developer takes the reins on the revitalization project.
