AVONDALE ESTATES, GA — A new park and event pavilion is coming to the city of Avondale Estates.

Last week, the city's Urban Redevelopment Agency voted to hire construction company Reeves Young, LLC to build Avondale Estates' Town Green project. City leaders have been planning the project for five years, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“I think this was the topic maybe at the very first meeting I was a part of in January of 2016,” Mayor Pro Tem Brian Fisher said during the URA meeting May 12. “And to finally get to this point is very humbling and it makes me proud.”

Town Green will span 5 acres of undeveloped, city-owned land along North Avondale Road. The project initially included a mixed-use retail and residential building, the AJC reported, but those plans are not feasible at this time, City Manager Patrick Bryant said at a Feb. 10 URA meeting.

Avondale Estates will pay Reeves Young, LLC up to $5.7 million for initial construction, which is expected to include a new street and necessary stormwater infrastructure in addition to the park and pavilion.
