Three Taverns Brewery Launches New Belgian Craft Beer

Decatur's Three Taverns Craft Brewery launches "White Hops."

Decatur is a beer lover's haven.

More specifically, this is a city that loves its craft beers.

Three Taverns Craft Brewery, which is based here, launched the fourth beer in its lineup, called "White Hops."

A Belgian-style white IPA, White Hops has a bit of history in Atlanta, Three Taverns owner Brian Purcell said.

Someone else had created something similar — or at least a brew with the same name — in the late 1800s in Atlanta. But that was illegal at the time particularly since it was marketed as non-alcoholic, Purcell said.

No one knows what the original tasted like, so Purcell created a white IPA that combines a Belgian yeast strain with wheat malt, Citra hops, spices and grapefruit peel.

Purcell met with Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch  this week to discuss the launch of the brewery's newest beer.
