Here are 10 reasons to attend this year’s Decatur Tiny House Festival:

  1. A global hot topic, container dwellings are one wave of the future. This year, shipping container structures have been added to the lineup, and attendees will have the chance to see what it’s like to live in a recycled home.
  2. Three favorite tiny home builders from last year’s festival, BIGHEART Tiny House Co., Hummingbird Tiny Housing and Mustard Seed Tiny Homes, will be back with stunning examples of high-end tiny living.
  3. The new Tiny Travel area explores taking big vacations with tiny spaces. Adventure seekers will love taking a look inside the sCAMPer Van, a rental and concierge service that is always ready for road trips.
  4. To answer the question of why the micro-movement is currently trending in the areas of home, design and gardening, HGTV Managing Editor Felicia Feaster will offer a Tiny Talk on festival Saturday.
  5. No stranger to the beauty of things that are small, Little Shop of Stories joins Decatur Tiny House Festival in the Kids Corner to offer short readings and deep discussions with young attendees.
  6. To satisfy even the biggest of appetites, Decatur Tiny House Festival welcomes a variety of food trucks – a.k.a. tiny restaurants – including local favorites like: Steel City Pops and Nectar.
  7. A tiny house is more than just a shell, so The Woven Cottage, a mobile retail store that sells gifts for the home and raises awareness and support for local women’s shelters, will be onsite to demonstrate what a big impact a little bit of shopping can have.
  8. When it comes to sustainability, permaculture should be top of mind. That’s why on festival Sunday, Brandy M. Hall, SITES AP, founder, director and lead designer for Shades of Green will explain how she has trained more than 200 permaculture design students to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges with putting more greenery into the green movement.
  9. It wouldn’t be a festival without the chance to meet with local and national vendors related to the micro-living movement, and there will be plenty on hand to help attendees bring sustainability and minimalism into their own lives whether making big changes or small ones.
  10. The Decatur Tiny House Festival is organized by the MicroLife Institute, an Atlanta-based organization that represents the lifestyle of minimalism in respect to environment and ease. The festival offers the perfect opportunity to learn more about the organization and its events and campaigns, as well as meet with the founders Will Johnston and Kim Bucciero, who will have their Escape Traveler open for tours throughout the weekend.
