Trayvon Martin Rally Saturday On Candler Road

A group will gather at 10 a.m. Saturday the DeKalb SuperValu Foods, formerly Piggly Wiggly, at 2112 Candler Road.

Rallies in memory of Trayvon Martin will be held across the nation on Saturday, including one not far from Decatur and Avondale Estates.

A group will gather at 10 a.m. Saturday the DeKalb SuperValu Foods, formerly Piggly Wiggly, at 2112 Candler Road.

A second rally will be held on the steps of the Richard B. Russell Federal Building on Spring Street in downtown Atlanta.

Leaders of South DeKalb’s Candler Road area will hold the First Annual DeKalb Civil Rights Walk held in memory of Trayvon Martin and Hosea Williams.  As the community comes together to bring advancement and improvements to local businesses, such as the newly renovated and renamed DeKalb SuperValu Foods, community leaders are recognizing others who have inspired changed and progress. Community awards will be presented at 1 p.m.

WHO:   Operator of the DeKalb SuperValu Foods Ken Hong, Civil Rights leaders including SCLC South DeKalb Chapter Membership Coordinator Nathan Knight, and Operation LEAD founder John Evans

WHEN:  Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10 a.m. until noon

WHERE:  DeKalb SuperValu Foods (formerly Piggly Wiggly), 2112 Candler Road, Decatur, GA 30032

OTHER:  The First Annual DeKalb Civil Rights Walk will begin at the DeKalb SuperValu Foods grocery store and will walk to the Hosea Williams House at 8 East Lake Drive and will end at the DeKalb SuperValu Foods.  Off-duty police officers will provide traffic control.  Community awards will be presented at 1 p.m.
