What's Open, Closed In Decatur, Avondale Estates For 4th Of July

DECATUR-AVONDALE ESTATES, GA — In observance of the Fourth of July holiday this weekend, most federal, state and local government offices are closed Monday.

There will be no mail delivery. Many businesses are open but with different hours — so it's not a bad idea to check before heading out.

Here's a breakdown of how the holiday could impact your routine:

  • DeKalb County government offices are closed Monday, July 5.
  • Municipal offices for the cities of Decatur and Avondale Estates are closed Monday, July 5.
  • The DeKalb County Public Library system is closed on the Fourth of July as well as Monday, July 5. Normal hours will resume July 6.
  • Decatur garbage pickup: For residents in Decatur's city limits, regular service for Monday will be on Tuesday, July 6. Regular service for Tuesday will be on Wednesday. All other days' routes are not affected.
  • Avondale Estates garbage pickup: There will be no trash service on Independence Day. All routes will have their trash picked up Tuesday.
  • DeKalb County garbage pickup: The DeKalb County Sanitation Department is closed Monday, so there will be no garbage pickup. Collection will run one day late for all customers.
  • The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority will operate bus service and Atlanta streetcar service on Sunday schedules on Monday, July 5. Rail service will operate on a modified Sunday schedule on Monday. Additionally, there's a special holiday schedule July 3-5, which can be found here.
  • This is a federal holiday and all U.S. Postal Service post offices are closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery or pickup, with the exception of Priority Mail Express, which is delivered 365 days per year.
  • All banks will be closed.
