Amazon's 1st GA Robotics Fulfillment Center To Launch In Gwinnett
Amazon officials say the facility on West Park Place Boulevard near Stone Mountain will be running in time for the holidays.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Amazon’s first robotics fulfillment center in Georgia is gearing up to open near Stone Mountain in time for the coming holiday-gift season.
The 640,000-square-foot facility in South Gwinnett near the DeKalb County line was originally dubbed “Project Rocket” when Gwinnett commissioners approved it in 2018. Its true identity as an Amazon fulfillment center wasn’t revealed until last year.
While the facility has been under construction since then — at that size, it’s hard to miss when driving by it on West Park Place Boulevard — it didn’t officially debut until Sept. 1, when Gov. Brian Kemp, Gwinnett County Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash and other dignitaries introduced it to the public.

“This is another exciting day for our state,” Kemp said, as reported by The Gwinnett Daily Post. “But it is also an important moment where we’ve got to double down on Georgia’s future.
Also present for the announcement were Pat Wilson, Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner; Rob Packett, Amazon’s regional director of operations; and other state and local leaders.

Although no exact date is set for when the center will open, an Amazon spokesperson promised that it “will launch ahead of the 2020 holiday season.”
According to Amazon, the launch of the new South Gwinnett facility will create more than 1,000 full-time jobs with benefits. More than 10,500 Amazon employees are already working at other facilities across Georgia.
Amazon will continue hiring for the center as well. Jobs will be posted at www.amazondelivers.jobs. Until then, candidates can learn more about working at Amazon on the company’s website and sign up for job alerts by texting ATLNOW to 77088.
Amazon first launched operations in Georgia in 2006 and currently has centers in East Point, Jefferson, Kennesaw, Lithia Springs, Macon and Union City. Amazon also has a facility under construction in Newnan, slated to launch ahead of the 2020 holiday season, as well as another robotics facility being built in Appling that’s expected to open in 2021.
