Donations Sought By Gwinnett Sheriff's Office For Injured Dog

"Tank" was saved by an officer after being in a hit and run accident with a truck and now needs surgery.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office is seeking donations for a dog that was hit by a truck last week in the roadway near the intersection of Old Freeman Mill and Winder Hwy in Dacula.

Deputy K. Black was on his way to work around 6 a.m. Saturday when he saw the dog hit. Black stopped to relocate the dog to safety, nearly getting struck by a car himself. He notified police dispatch and requested a unit for visibility due to the darkness so that he could render aid to the dog, who was clearly injured.
Gwinnett Police Department officer MD Davis responded to the call and assisted Black in loading the injured dog into his patrol vehicle, then transported the dog to the county animal shelter so that Black could report for duty.

The good news is that the dog has been named "Tank" and Sheriff Butch Conway ensured that he found a home in the Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program, where he'll receive loving care and undergo hip replacement surgery to repair the damage.

The bad news is that the surgery will cost between $8,000 - $10,000, so police are going to need help from every animal lover who sees this post and wants to support Tank in his long road to recovery.
