Dozens Of Cats Rescued From NE Georgia Couple Need Foster Homes
A well-meaning elderly couple began feeding local stray cats about a year ago. Then the female cats started having kittens.
WALTON COUNTY, GA — Almost 50 cats rescued from the home of an elderly couple in northeast Georgia are in need of foster homes, according to an Atlanta animal-welfare group.
“We’ve been receiving loads of calls about fostering the kittens,” Karen Hirsch, spokesperson for LifeLine Animal Project, said to Patch Wednesday afternoon. “What we need now is fosters for the adult cats.”
The cats were discovered after the couple’s daughter called Cats and Dogs of Georgia on Monday, Hirsch said.

The woman’s parents, both in their mid-80s, started feeding local strays about a year ago. Then, the female cats started having kittens.
“The people who were feeding the cats were trying to do the right thing,” Hirsch said to Patch, “but since they didn't spay them, things quickly got out of control.”

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, authorities rescued all but seven of 50 cats found, including 16 kittens. They’re still trying to catch the ones remaining. No charges are expected against the couple.
LifeLine is taking care of the kittens, but the adult cats in a Walton County shelter still need fosters. Both adult cats and kittens need veterinary care.
