GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The abandoned Ingles grocery store on Grayson Highway will soon have a new owner: the county.

Gwinnett County has agreed to buy the store at 1050 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville for $5.2 million to store court and county records, according to a report in The Gwinnett Daily Post.

The old Ingles building will replace the nearly-full Records Management Center located at 455 Grayson Highway, which itself is a former big-box store. The Ingles building has been vacant since 2019. It has 87,393 square feet of space.

The county also recently accepted a donation of 88 acres of property at the former site of Northwoods Golf Club off Club Drive in unincorporated Duluth. The Gwinnett newspaper reports that the property will be used for now as a passive greenspace.

“We are grateful to (donors Benjamin and Anthony Wood) for letting us have this property,” Commission Chair Nicole Love Hendrickson said. “It could potentially help us fill in some gaps in recreation for the area.”
