GWINNETT COUNTY, GA -- Gov. Brian Kemp signed into the law the Heartbeat Bill Tuesday, outlawing most abortions after six weeks.

In a press release, Democratic candidate for Congress in Georgia's 7th district, Marqus Cole, called HB 481, one of the most extreme anti-choice laws in the country. An attorney and former prosecutor, Cole made the following statement:

"It is deeply troubling that Governor Kemp has chosen once again to leverage the rights of Georgians for his own political gain. After spending his tenure as Georgia's Secretary of State engaging in voter suppression, he is choosing to take reproductive rights from Georgia's women.

"By signing this bill today, the Governor Kemp has sent us down a long, costly road. Roe V. Wade is the law of the land, and this bill's efforts to change that are wasting Georgia taxpayers money.

"Instead of funding much needed infrastructure investments in our district, Georgians will spend millions of dollars to defend the extreme political agenda of far right activists.
