Georgia Unemployment Rate Drops to 7.2 Percent

The state is now tied for the third-worst unemployment rate in the nation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.

Georgia’s unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent in November, down from 7.6 percent in October, the Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday.

Much of the month-to-month job growth came in the service-related industries, such as retail trade, as well as local government jobs.

The Athens metro area led the state’s lowest jobless rates at 5 percent, while the Dalton metro area had the highest unemployment rate at 8.4 percent.
