Grayson Edging Up National Football Polls
The Rams got their season started with a 35-26 win over defending Alabama state champions Hoover.

LOGANVILLE, GA — The Grayson High Rams are back in familiar territory, creeping their way up national high school football polls after an impressive win Friday night.
The Rams held on for a 35-26 home victory over Hoover (Ala.), the defending Alabama state champions. Six-foot-six Kenyon Jackson scooped a pass nearly off of the ground and ran it in for a fourth-quarter score, sealing the deal for the Rams who are, themselves, Georgia's defending Class AAAAAAA champions.
The victory over Hoover, who the Rams also defeated last year en route to a 14-1 season, moved Grayson up one spot to No. 6 in the MaxPreps national rankings. High School Football America slotted the Rams in at the same No. 6 spot.

The Rams entered the week No. 7 in the USA Today computer rankings, which had not been updated Monday morning.
Rams quarterback D.J. Irons — who this season replaces Chase Brice, who's now playing at Clemson — went 14 of 19 passing for 200 yards and added another 63 yards rushing. Ronald Thompkins rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns and Camron Thompson added another 95 yards on the ground.

Jackson's touchdown grab with 3:54 remaining helped Grayson seal the win after they roared out to a two-touchdown lead early in the game, only to have Hoover fight back to pull the contest to within two points in the fourth quarter.
The victory was the first as a head coach for Grayson's Christian Hunnicut. Hunnicut is a longtime assistant who replaced Jeff Herron — who left the program after just one season to take a job in South Carolina.
