Grayson Takes On Colquitt in Powerhouse Quarterfinal

GRAYSON, GA — A battle of Region AAAAAAA powerhouses is on tap Friday night, as Grayson takes on Colquitt County in the state football quarterfinals.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Mack Tharpe Memorial Stadium in Moultrie.

Grayson (11-1) and Colquitt (8-4) have been two of the most dominant programs in the state's largest division since its inception in 2007. Grayson won the state title in 2011 and Colquitt has earned the top spot twice — in 2014 and 2015.

In that time, Grayson has made it at least to the quarterfinals seven times, while Colquitt has currently reached at least the state semifinals a record seven times in a row.

Friday night's contest will feature a battle between two top-tier quarterbacks.

Grayson's Chase Brice has thrown for 2,324 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. Last week, he went for 316 yards and five touchdowns in a 59-21 victory over Woodstock. Brice has committed to follow former Grayson head coach Mickey Conn to Clemson.

For Colquitt County, Jay Saunders has passed for 2,615 yards and 22 touchdowns this year, going for 357 yards in last week's 66-35 win over Brookwood.
