Gwinnett Associate Superintendent To Lead Columbia County Schools
Steven Flynt has been tapped to succeed Sandra Carraway, the district's current superintendent who is set to retire this year.
GWINNETT, GA — Gwinnett County Public Schools Associate Superintendent Steven Flynt has been tapped to serve as superintendent in Columbia County.
Flynt was chosen unanimously by the Columbia County Board of Education in a special meeting on Thursday to take over following the retirement of Sandra Carraway, the Columbia County superintendent who is set to retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
A graduate of The University of Georgia, Flynt has worked for Gwinnett County Public Schools for 27 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has filled roles including junior high teacher and Peachtree Ridge High School assistant principal and principal.

He also worked in Gwinnett County as area superintendent, chief academic officer, associate superintendent, chief strategy and performance officer, and associate superintendent in charge of the division of school leadership and operational support, according to a news release from Columbia County schools.
"Dr. Flynt is married to Kristin, and they have three daughters, Sarah, Emily and Jessica. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, canoeing, water sports, boating, fishing, and lacrosse, among other things," the district said in a statement. "We welcome Dr. Flynt and his family."
