Gwinnett Restaurant Sets Record For Lowest 2021 Inspection Score

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Now that pandemic restrictions are being relaxed and restaurants are reopening, are you thinking of going out for a bite to eat? Then check out these inspection scores for restaurant and food-service operations conducted over the last week or so in Gwinnett County.

Most of the 44 restaurants and food-service operations inspected scored an A, with 11 operations rating a perfect 100. Also, nine restaurant that previously failed their inspections or scored a C were able to improve their scores considerably, most of them scoring an A.

However, two restaurants and one food-service operation — Cuban Sandwiches To Go and Teriyaki Box in Lawrenceville, and Cai Hong Senior Service in Norcross — scored less than 70 and were deemed "unacceptable." In fact, Cuban Sandwiches To Go scored only a 40, the lowest score given to any Gwinnett restaurant in 2021 so far. Restaurants with low or failing scores are typically given a second chance and re-inspected a week or so later.

How They're Rated

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from the best possible score of 100. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points

Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.
