Gwinnett Schools Run Online Classes, Provide Meals

Here's this week's plan for what Gwinnett school officials are doing amid school closures over the spread of the coronavirus.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Gwinnett County Public Schools released a plan for the week of March 16 to 20 amid school closure over the spread of the new coronavirus, including plans for school employees and meals for students.

This week, students are undergoing "Digital Learning Days," in which teachers are leading digital lessons from home.

All other school and district staff are reporting to work. Transportation supervisors are giving work details to school bus drivers and monitors.

As a part of the work schedule this week, school nutrition and transportation staff will coordinate to provide meals for students. The school system will provide lunch for anyone 18 or younger at 68 schools throughout the district.

Lunches will be provided for free, but the student must be present to receive the meal. The schools will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hand out lunches.

School buses will make lunches available at bus stops near the 68 sites.

The school website will show estimated deliver times once they're finalized.

Gov. Brian Kemp ordered the closure of all schools in the state until March 31, so on March 19, Gwinnett County school officials will announce their plans for March 23 to 27.
