ATLANTA, GA — A Los Angeles Clippers player with Georgia roots has been placed in 10-day quarantine after leaving the NBA’s coronavirus “bubble” and visiting an Atlanta strip club.

Lou Williams was on an excused absence from the NBA’s Orlando, Florida, campus when rapper Jack Harlow posted to Instagram a photo of him at Magic City. Harlow later deleted the photo, then tweeted Friday “That was an old pic of me and Lou. I was just reminiscing cuz I miss him.”

The photo showed Williams with a drink and wearing an NBA mask. Williams later told NBA security that he briefly visited Magic City on July 23, but there were no entertainers present.

ESPN reported that Williams told investigators he had been at a viewing for a family friend, then stopped by Magic City early Thursday evening to eat.

Williams, who played briefly for the Atlanta Hawks, is a graduate of South Gwinnett High School in Snellville. A basketball court there is named in his honor.

The quarantine will bench Williams for the first two games of the pandemic-shortened NBA season against the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans. Williams is the Clippers’ third leading scorer.

Keeping COVID-19 under control has been an issue as professional sports leagues return to play during a pandemic. The Miami Marlins announced Monday that 11 players and two other employees had tested positive for the coronavirus, stranding them in quarantine in Philadelphia after playing the Phillies. The Marlins will miss at least one game because of the quarantine, according to The Miami Herald.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday on Good Morning America that the Marlins’ outbreak may endanger the rest of the baseball season.

“This could put it in danger,” Fauci said on the ABC news show. “I don’t believe they need to stop, but we just need to follow this and see what happens with other teams on a day-by-day basis.”
