New Grayson High Football Coach Named

Jeff Herron, who will replace Mickey Conn, brings a 273-51 career record as a head coach to Grayson.

GRAYSON, GA -- Grayson High School has found its replacement for football coach Mickey Conn.

Jeff Herron, from Prince Avenue Christian in Bogart, will become the school's second-ever football coach, bringing years of winning Georgia football to a program that was moments away from a Class AAAAA state championship game last season.

The hiring, pending approval by the Gwinnett County school board, was being reported by Gwinnett Prep Sports.

Herron has a career 273-51 record as a head coach and has never had a losing season.

He spent the last three seasons at Prince Avenue, where he compiled a 31-6 record, including a 12-1 mark last year.

Before that, he helmed state powerhouse Camden County, leading the Wildcats to state championships in 2003, 2008 and 2009.

He also won a 1999 state championship at Oconee County.

Earlier this month, Conn announced he was leaving Grayson to take a position under college roommate Dabo Sweeney at Clemson.

Grayson posted a 13-1 record last season, making a run to the Class AAAAA state semifinals.
