Severe Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday Around Atlanta
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Tuesday afternoon and evening in much of north and central Georgia.
ATLANTA, GA — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for metro Atlanta, saying strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday.
According to the outlook, isolated thunderstorms may become severe as the day goes along in the region, which includes much of north and central Georgia. The primary threats from the storms will be damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall, with the possibility of large hail.
The weather service's forecast for the metro Atlanta area calls for a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 79. The 40 percent rain chance continues into Tuesday night, with storms most likely before 2 a.m.

According to the weather service, a stalled frontal boundary and afternoon heat area expected to contribute to an atmosphere conducive to severe storms.

The chance for stormy weather may be sticking around, too.
The NWS says a "moist and unstable air mass" will remain over north and central Georgia for the next several days. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day, with a few storms possibly becoming severe.
This week's forecast calls for high temperatures in the low to mid-80s and a chance of rain and thunderstorms all the way through the weekend and into early next week.
