Shooter Leaves One Dead, One Wounded At Gwinnett Apartments

Family members say a man who died of gunshot wounds Thursday at a Lawrenceville apartment complex had just been released from prison.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — One man is dead and another is injured after a shooting early Thursday morning at a Lawrenceville apartment complex.

Officers arrived just after midnight at the Durant Sugarloaf Apartments on Marlowe Drive and found the deceased male, according to a statement from the Gwinnett County Police Department. A second man was taken to a local hospital, his condition unknown.

Although authorities are withholding names, multiple media outlets have reported the family has identified the victim as Capri Ward, 29. According to Ward’s father, Ward had recently been released from prison and was working to get back on his feet.

“He was doing the right thing,” Tirrell Acevedo said to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “To be honest, yeah, he sold weed … I didn’t agree with it, but what can you tell a 30-year-old? They know everything.”

Gwinnett investigators are considering all motives, but Ward’s family members are saying he was the victim of a robbery.
