ICYMI: Signing Day Busy For Gwinnett Athletes

Football standouts from Gwinnett County signed with Georgia Tech, USC, Auburn and other top schools on Wednesday.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Gwinnett County is a hotbed for high-school football.

As such, National Signing Day on Wednesday was a busy one for standout athletes from Gwinnett. Several of the prep stars made their commitments official Wednesday morning at a signing ceremony at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, others attended events with their soon-to-be college homes or merely sent word from home about their big decisions.

It’s an uphill battle to collect the name of every Gwinnett prep who signed with a college on Wednesday and some were still holding out, planning to make their decisions public Wednesday evening. But here is our roundup of some of Wednesday’s signees that have already put pen to paper. We’ll update as the day goes on.

_ Kyle Davis, Archer, signed with Auburn. The highly-touted wide receiver had previously committed to South Carolina.

_ Donta Evans, Archer, signed with Ole Miss. The linebacker had made his intent to join Ole Miss public in August.

_ E.J. Price, Archer, signed with University of Southern California. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman had been committed to Georgia at one point.

_ Dylan Singleton, Archer, signed with Duke. The safety’s brother already plays for the Blue Devils.

_ Shug Frazier, Buford, signed with North Carolina State. The 6-foot-2, 321-pound defensive lineman was a four-year starter for one of the state’s most prominent football programs.

_ Xavier Gantt, Buford, signed with Georgia Tech. The running back and school both stuck with a verbal commitment they’d made in the spring, despite Gantt having to undergo knee surgery during the off-season.

_ Tomon Fox, Collins Hill, signed with North Carolina. The defensive end had offers from the likes of Auburn, Notre Dame and Tennessee.

_ Jakob Brashear, Dacula, signed with Georgia Tech. The 6-foot, 205-pound linebacker will stay close to home.

_ Demetrios Mason, Grayson, signed with Missouri. Mason is listed as an “athlete” by the program, suggesting he could play at any of several skill positions.

_ Devin Cochran, of Greater Atlanta Christian, signed with Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound offensive tackle committed in June, although he had given a second look to Georgia since then.

_ Derrick Brown, Lanier, signed with Auburn. The five-star defensive lineman may have been the county’s most heavily recruited player. He announced live on ESPN2.

_ Peyton Moore, Mill Creek, signed with Georgia State. He is a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker.

_ Josh Imatorbhebhe, North Gwinnett, signed with University of Southern California. He enrolled early and is attending classes at USC, after turning down offers from lots of schools closer to home.

_ Nigel Warrior, Peachtree Ridge, signed with Tennessee. He’ll follow the footsteps of his father, former NFL All-Pro Dale Carter, who also played his college ball with the Volunteers.
