Man Arrested After Shooting, Manhunt In Snellville: Police
Shawn Davis, 43, was arrested Monday after shooting at police and running, causing Hwy. 78 to be shut down while police searched for him.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Shawn Davis, 43, was the subject of a SWAT team standoff and manhunt that shut down a Gwinnett County highway for hours early Monday morning. He is now in police custody, according to WSB-TV.
Law enforcement authorities closed all lanes in both directions of Highway 78 near Summit Chase Drive after a man shot at a Snellville police officer before sunrise Monday. According to WSB-TV, Snellville police officers were investigating a “suspicious vehicle” around 3 a.m. and at some point, a man fired at an officer, who fired back. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that the man fled into the woods after the officer shot back.

The officer was not hurt, but law enforcement began a massive manhunt for the suspect. Around 8 a.m. Monday, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody, WSB-TV reported.

There is still a heavy police presence on Hwy. 78 at Summit Chase Drive with lanes still closed in both directions as of 9:15 a.m. Monday, according to WSB-TV’s traffic center. Drivers are encouraged to use Temple Johnson Road and Skyland Drive as alternate routes.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, the agency announced on social media, its second officer-involved shooting of 2021, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
