Upscale Carmike Theater Going to Snellville - Not Loganville

Loganville officials say it is unlikely Carmike will still locate in Loganville with another so close.

Carmike Cinemas announced Feb. 28 that construction will begin soon on a new Carmike Cinemas complex in Snellville. Loganville City Manager Bill Jones, who has been waiting to find out what the company would do about its original intention to move to Loganville, said he didn't think it would have two locations so close.

"I guess Loganville is going to have to continue to wish," he said, adding that he would be speaking to some of the other movie companies who had expressed interest in Loganville. it went so far as to post on its website that it would be coming to Loganville. That, however, has gone quiet in the last year and the website now lists Snellville as the location that will be getting the new BigD experience. The closest one to the local area at the moment is the one in Bethlehem that opened last year.

According to Snellville Patch, the new Carmike 13 planned for Sneillville will be an anchor tenant of a 43-acre multi-use development to be constructed at the corner of Scenic Highway 124 near Webb Gin House Road, according to a recent statement.  The development will be across from The Avenue, with the goal of attracting top-tier shops, restaurants and commercial properties.

The theatre will feature stadium style seating, with high back rocking luxury seats with retractable arm rests. The rooms will be equipped with wall-to-wall screens, as well as DLP Digital projection and digital sound.

On top of that, the theatre will have an upscale lobby and multiple concession areas featuring Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers.

“We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that centerpieces largeformat DIGITAL with bigger screens, bigger sound, and luxurious theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences,” said Carmike President and CEO David Passman.

The “BIGD” auditorium features a wall-to-wall screen measuring over 81-feet wide and three stories tall. To further enhance the experience, the custom QSC DIGITAL audio system is tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels and the ability to upgrade to 11.1 surround sound. The audio system is a revolution in sound technology, according to Director of Marketing Terrell Mayton, with DIGITAL audio processing supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers and 21-inch subwoofers.

A smaller Carmike is currently located off of Scenic Highway.
