2 Held In Attempted Blue Island Carjacking, Shooting : Cops
Former Oak Lawn man left seriously wounded in attempted carjacking in Blue Island, cops say.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — Two “persons of interest” are in custody and police are searching for other suspects believed to be in involved in an attempted carjacking Monday afternoon in Blue Island, that left a 38-year-old man seriously wounded.
Blue Island police responded to a call of a person shot around noon Monday in the 12100 block of South Western Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot of the Calumet Paint Store. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

According to preliminary information, the man was returning from lunch to his workplace on Aug. 3, when he noticed two vehicles following him. When he arrived at his workplace in 12100 block of South Western Avenue, when a black BMW passed by the man’s Dodge Charger.
The report said that a man outside tapped on the car window with a gun and shots were fired. The wounded man also reportedly shot at his assailant, according to information obtained from police.

The suspect ran away on foot. Both vehicles were captured on video presumably looking for the shooter, reports said. Officers tried to stop one of the fleeing vehicles.
After a brief car chase, the occupants abandoned the vehicle. Two of them were apprehended moments later near 108th Street and Throop Avenue, with assistance from Chicago police. The pair were placed in custody. Blue Island police did not indicate if the pair were charged. Reports said the shooter remains at large.
"In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation and court proceedings, no further information will be released," Blue Island police said in a written statement.
Police described the person they believe to be the shooter as a male black with a thin build, around 6-feet tall. He was wearing a black hooded jacket with an orange logo, faded stone wash skinny jeans, brown dress shoes and a red face covering.
