Alsip Park District Plans Kids' Halloween Activities

The Alsip Park District plans Halloween activities for children on Sat. Oct. 27, including a costume parade, carnival and trunk or treat.

ALSIP, IL -- Show off your Halloween costume at the Alsip Park District's Halloween costume parade and All Hallow's Eve Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 27. The parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. at the Apollo Recreation Center Gymnasium. Judges will pick the best costumes and announce winners at the carnival immediately following the parade from 10 a.m. to noon. Children who have a ticket to the carnival may enter the parade.

There will be lots of prizes and the chance to guess the weight of a giant pumpkin and number of candies in a jar at the All Hallow's Eve Carnival. Kids can also decorate their own pumpkin. Popcorn and beverages will be served. Each child will have a goodie bag to bring home. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is $5 or $7 at the door.

Haunts Against Hunger Trick or Trunk and Food Drive

Make the rounds of the Apollo Recreation Center's parking lot. Local families and businesses are invited to reserve a space for Trick or Trunk. Decorate your truck or car with Halloween decor, and hand out candy to trick or treaters as they stop by. This is a safe alternative to trick or treating around the neighborhood. Parents are invited to make the rounds with their kids. Trunk or Treat is free and open to all.

Dress in your favorite costume and bring a nonperishable food item (or a couple) for the Haunts Against Hunger Food Drive. All food collected will be distributed to local food pantries just in time for Thanksgiving and holiday season. If the weather gets spooky, like rain, the event will be postponed. There will be a prize for the best decorated trunk.

The Alsip Park District is still looking for Halloween Happy residents and businesses to join our Haunts Against Hunger Food Drive & Trick or Trunk event in the Apollo Recreation Center parking lot. All you have to do is register with us and hand out candy to the kids as they trick or treat from trunk to trunk having a goulishly good time. Decorate your automobile and enter our contest for a chance to win the best decorated car prize at the event. Just bring enough candy for 250 kids and don't forget a non-perishable food item for our food drive. You will have a great time!

Contact the main office at at 708-389-1003 if you are interested in hosting a parking space during Trick or Trunk. Trick or Trunk runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. All Halloween activities will be held at the Apollo Recreation Center, 12521 S Kostner Ave, Alsip.
