ALSIP, IL — Those craving signature French silk pie will have to go elsewhere for their favorite slice. Employees arrived for work at Bakers Square, 4839 W 111th St, Alsip, this past weekend, only to discover that they had been locked out. Alsip’s is one of 33 locations that be shut down permanently, company officials announced.

American Blue Ribbon Holdings, which owns the restaurant chain, blamed high wages and growing competition for declining sales and higher operating losses, Restaurant Business reported. The holding company filed for bankruptcy this week and said in a press release that it planned to restructure under a “healthy core of restaurants” while it explores new strategic options.

Employees will be offered a severance package or transferred to another Bakers Square location. Also closing are Bakers Square on LaGrange Road in Orland Park and Lansing.
