Blue Island Light Parade Kicks Off Holiday Season

Blue Island is planning a day of family holiday fun this Saturday, Dec. 2, including the famous Light Parade.

BLUE ISLAND, IL— Blue Island’s famous Light Parade steps off down Western Avenue at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 2. The parade highlights a day of family holiday fun that includes holiday movies at the library, a Kringle Mart and free rides for the kiddos.

The Blue Island Light Parade begins at Western Avenue and Union Street, south to Grove Street, heads back north on Gregory Street, giving more people an opportunity to view the parade. After the parade, join Mayor Domingo Vargas at Metro South Park at York and Western Avenue to light the Christmas trees. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be accepting visitors and posing for photos in the Santa House at High Street and Western Avenue.

Save some Christmas shopping for Blue Island’s Business Open Houses up and down Western Avenue and Olde Western Avenue. Free horse-drawn wagon rides will clop among the historic homes along Greenwood Avenue from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Pick-up for the wagon rides is at Metro South Park at York and Western.

The Blue Island Public Library at 2433 York St. will be showing Christmas movies from 1 to 4 p.m. There will also be a Kringle Mart under the tents in the parking lot located at High and Western from 1 to 5 p.m. Free train rides and Ferris wheel rides are also available for the kids while parents shop.The Blue Island Public Library, 2433 York St., will host their annual Open House from 6 to 7:30 p.m., lighting their tree and serving refreshments following the parade.
