Blue Island Police Taking Applications For Eligibility List

BLUE ISLAND, IL — The City of Blue Island is expanding its eligibility list for persons interested in applying for immediate openings in the police department. Applications must be turned by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at the Blue Island Police Department, 13031 S. Greenwood Ave.

There are currently 37 sworn officers serving a community with a population of 24,570. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's License upon time of hire.
• Age requirements: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 by the appointment date.
• Education: Must have proof of high school diploma or GED certificate
• Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) card from a certified testing agency.

Applications can be downloaded online from the Blue Island Police Department website. There is a $35 non-refundable application fee. The following documents must be submitted with the application:

• Copy of driver’s license, birth certificate, valid POWER card and high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Copy of Certification of Completion of Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training (if applicable).
• Copy of DD 214, if applicable.
• SEALED original official college transcript (if applicable).

The Civil Service Commission of Blue Island will be conducting an examination for applicants on Dec. 19, at Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, 12700 S. Sacramento Ave., Blue Island. (Enter through the main entrance and walk downstairs to the cafeteria. Face masks and social distancing are required. Check-in is a 9 a.m., with orientation at 9:30 a.m. The test will start at 10 a.m.
