Firefighters from across the south suburbs spent two hours putting out a fire at a junk yard in Blue Island.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — Several dozen cars and a house caught fire early Saturday morning at a junk yard near 131st and Kedzie in Blue Island. Blue Island Fire Chief Dan Reda said fire units responded to a call of an outside fire around 3:50 a.m. and found several cars and a house were on fire in multiple spots.
Fire crews from 14 neighboring communities responded, helping put out all fires a little after 6 a.m. Reda said. In all, anywhere from 50-55 firefighters helped put out the blaze.
No one was injured, and Reda said the house on the property looked vacant. It is a total loss now after it collapsed, he said.
