Franciscan Health Recognizes Two Daisy Award Recipients

Two Franciscan Health Olympia Fields nurses were honored by the DAISY Foundation during National Nurses Week. Intensive Care nurse Fatima Dacua and Medical-Surgical Oncology nurse Victoria Skala received DAISY Awards, recognizing the exceptional work they do for patients and families every day.

Steger resident and 16-year ICU nurse, Fatima Dacua, was nominated for a Daisy Award by a former patient’s daughter. According to that patient’s daughter Fatima was treating her dad as if he was her own. “Fatima truly has a heart of gold and loves her job,” she said. “A huge shout out to Fatima for keeping nursing what it is meant to be… All about the patient!”

One-year nurse and Crestwood resident, Victoria Skala was also nominated by a former frequent patient who praised the compassion Skala exhibited during multiple hospital visits. “She instinctively knows when to listen, then comfort,” the patient said. “That is part of her being, not taught. It’s one of many attributes that makes her so special.”

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday. Franciscan Health recognizes the contributions of nurses through the DAISY Awards all year long, The DAISY awards recognize nurses who deliver extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care.
