Media Day Dragon Boat Festival

WHAT: Lansing, Ill. – Media day for the Chicago Southland Dragon Boat Festival will take place on Friday June 2nd in Blue Island. The 2nd Annual Chicago Southland Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Waterfall Park along the Cal-Sag, Blue Island, Ill. (Corner of Fulton and Chatham St.). Dragon Boat Festival activities begin Friday, June 2nd with team practice starting at approximately 4:00 p.m. with sessions provided by Great White North Dragon Boat Racing, which also provides the dragon boats, paddles and life jackets for participants. This year’s festival includes team practices, dragon boat races, music, vendor village featuring the Southland’s best food, craft beer, awards ceremony, and an after party on June 3rd at the Blue Island Beer Company. Dragon boating is a water sport that is recognized for the synchronicity, endurance, and team spirit that participants share. All over the world, tens of thousands of athletes participate in dragon boat festivals each year. There are also thousands of people involved in dragon boat clubs and organizations. Today dragon boat racing is among the fastest growing team water sports in the world, and is a great sport for all ages and abilities.
