$56M Mega Millions Winner Aware He Won, But Hasn’t Come Forward

CRESTWOOD, IL – Oh where, oh where, is the lucky person who won $56 million in the Mega Millions draw on June 8. The winning ticket was purchased at the Citgo, 13830 S. Pulaski Road, in Crestwood.

The winner has yet to come forward, but according to store employees where the ticket was purchased, the player is aware of his newfound fortune.

According to Cue, who owns the store, an employee said one of their regular customers came in and ran his Mega Millions ticket in the machine, when he found out he was the winner of 56 million big ones.

“The gentleman basically falls to the floor, sits there for a few minutes, and then gets up,” Cue said. “He then starts sprinting towards the front door screaming, ‘I won, I won the Mega Millions.’ That happened on June 15, and we haven’t seen him since.”

Like Cue and partner, Naboli, they’re sure the lucky man is in total shock and disbelief, just as they were when they found out they sold the winning ticket, earning a nice bonus of $500,000 from the state.

“Since that day, there's been non-stop action at our store, but after things settle down, we plan to reinvest all the selling bonus back into the business,” Cue added.

The Crestwood Citgo Station can be added to the list of lucky places in the Southland where winning lotto tickets have been sold. Here is a list where jackpot tickets have been sold in recent years.

The June 9 win is the largest Mega Millions jackpot won in Illinois since 2017. Mega Millions is played in 47 states.

The Illinois Lottery is looking forward to celebrating this big win with the player, and would like to remind the winner that he or she has 12 months from the date of the draw to claim the prize.

The winner is also encouraged to write their name on the back of the ticket and make an appointment at a claim center to redeem their prize.
