ALSIP, IL — A high-speed chase ended in Alsip on Saturday afternoon, after Harvey police chased four suspects driving a Chevy Equinox that had been reported stolen. Alsip police helped take down three of the suspects after they crashed into an innocent bystander’s car and fled on foot. A gun reportedly stolen out of Michigan was also recovered.

Around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Harvey police said they spotted at least one suspect who was wanted for attempted murder in a stolen Chevy Equinox. Four people were in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled a traffic stop in Harvey.

Alsip police, who did not join the car chase, began blocking intersections along Cicero Avenue so the vehicle could pass through the village and prevent new traffic from entering the roadway. The vehicle made a U-turn at 120th and Cicero Avenue where it fled southbound from Harvey police.

Police said the fleeing car hit an uninvolved person’s vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light and a Harvey patrol car at 123rd Street and Cicero. The innocent bystanders’ and the stolen vehicles both sustained significant damage. Neither the two occupants in the uninvolved vehicle, the four suspects nor the officers were injured.

The suspects bailed from the stolen Chevy and fled on foot. Alsip police were able to arrest three of them after a foot chase, police said. Alsip police joined the foot chase and moments later took three of the alleged suspects in custody. A fourth person got away by stealing an unlocked vehicle running unoccupied in an Alsip resident’s driveway and remains at large, police said.

Four handguns were recovered, one of which was stolen out of Michigan. Two guns were found inside the stolen Equinox, and the other two were recovered outside a business on the 12300 block of South Cicero Avenue.

The guns found outside the business were a fully loaded Smith & Wesson and a Glock with an extended magazine, police said. The suspects allegedly dumped one on the sidewalk and another behind a propane storage cage as they fled the officers.
