Who Went to Work on February 15 & 16?
Blue Cap Staff Weather the Storm in Support of Serving People with Intellectual Disabilities

I sit in my living room at 4:35am under a blanket looking out at the snow coming down and the street already snow filled. I pray for the staff at Blue Cap’s group homes who are facing yet another challenge for the people with intellectual disabilities they serve. COVID-19 has created a different work world and last night/today they need to fight the weather to even get to work. People need support to have meals, take medications, and to engage in meaningful activities. It is the Direct Support Professional’s (DSP) job to provide that support. They can’t do that from a computer at home like many other professionals. The maintenance staff is out there too, shoveling, putting down salt, to make it safe for folks to get out tomorrow to get their vaccines.
Thank you to all the DSPs at Blue Cap, and the other organizations that support people with Intellectual Disabilities, who went to work on February 15 and 16. Thank you to all the others that provide services to the public and work to keep people safe and healthy. None of us know who all those people are so be kind, patient, and supportive of all the folks you meet and be thankful for all those that serve others.
Thankful,
Pat Thies - Executive Director, Blue Cap
