Worth Township Youth Commission Seeks Donated School Supplies

ALSIP, IL -- The Worth Township Youth Commission's Apple Tree Program is accepting donated school supplies to be used by local families facing financial difficulty. With the first day of school fast approaching, parents and community members are asked to pick up an additional item or two as they head out to stores to buy school supplies. The items will be used to replenish school supplies throughout the school year.

The youth commission accepts donated supplies and monetary donations year round. School supplies can be dropped off at the youth commission's office on the second floor at Worth Township Hall, 11601 S. Pulaski Road, Alsip, IL 60803. Monetary donations can also be sent to this address, which will be used to purchase items in bulk when school supplies go on sale. Checks should be made payable to Worth Township. Specify "Apple Tree" or "school supplies" in the memo section.

Items on the wish list include:

• #2 Pencils (black lead)
• Mechanical Pencils (with refillable lead)
• Red, Blue and Black Pens
• Erasable Pens (red, blue, black)
• 12" Ruler (in inches and centimeters) (plastic and wooden)
• Box of wipes and paper towels
• Colored pencils
• Crayola crayons box of 12, 16, 24, 48, or 64
• Crayola Thin and Wide Washable Markers
• Elmer's White School Glue 4 oz. bottle
• Fiskar scissors (both right and left-handed)
• Glue sticks
• Laminated pocket folders and regular pocket folders
• Large box Kleenex (350 count)
• Loose-leaf notebook paper
• Pencil and ink erasers
• Pencil case
• Plastic school boxes
• Protractors and compasses
• Sandwich and gallon-size Zip Lock bags
• School bag/backpacks
• Spiral notebooks, both wide and college rule
• Binders (all sizes)
• Calculators
• Black Sharpie Markers
• Pencil Sharpeners
• Index Cards (small and large)

Supplies may be dropped off Monday through Friday during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To receive help through the program, fill out and submit the Apple Tree Application Form (PDF). This program is made possible by the generous donations made by local residents, businesses, church groups, schools, and civic groups.

Due to an overwhelming response to the youth commission’s Apple Tree Program, applicants must provide the following to receive school supplies:

• Have a school supply list from the school for each child in the family. School supplies will NOT be given to any child without a list.
• Show proof of residency by providing a copy of each child’s birth certificate, a utility bill and a current driver’s license of state ID.
