CHICAGO, IL — While the city's downtown condo prices went up by 2.8 percent in 2017, condo prices in the Trump International Hotel & Tower went down by nearly 12 percent from 2016. Condos in the tower sold for an average of $747 a square foot last year, according to Integra Realty Resources Chicago. In 2016, sales averaged $846 a foot in the tower.
Many protests have taken place outside the tower over the past year, beginning with a massive rally protesting the inauguration of President Donald Trump hours after he was sworn in as the 45th U.S. president.
In July, seven people were arrested following the unfurling of a Greenpeace banner from the building. Activists hoisted the banner from the hotel's terrace restaurant before it was quickly taken down.

The tower has also been the focus of many social media photo trends, from people mooning the building in protest of President Trump to tourists only visiting the tower to snap photos with their middle fingers facing the Trump name.
Managers at nearby apartment complexes facing the tower told Patch some renters even turn down residences that have a view of the Trump name.
