Will County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Tom Budde said police received a call at 7:26 p.m. Sunday for an unresponsive child.

"Family members had gathered for Father's Day and were swimming in the pool all day," Budde said. "They went inside for a minute to tend to another small child for a minute and lost track of the 17-month-old for a short period of time."

The mother found the child lying in the pool on top of a partially submerged solar cover, Budde said. The mother started CPR until paramedics arrived.

Preliminary autopsy findings are consistent with drowning.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
