HOMER GLEN, IL — A boy and his father were hurt Saturday night in a head-on crash, leaving them with serious injuries, and an Orland Park man is charged with DUI in connection to the crash. Jayden Bruno, 12, and his dad, Jared Bruno of Homer Glen, were on their way home from Jayden's football practice at Hadley Middle School in Homer Glen when the crash happened, according to a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $10,000 in a day.

Other driver charged

Deputies responded to 159th Street and Parker Road at 10:47 p.m. Saturday for a report of a head-on collision, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. When they arrived, they saw a 2008 Mercedes on 159th Street in the westbound left turn lane and a 2015 Hyundai Tucson on 159th Street facing east in the westbound left turn lane. The Hyundai was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes after turning on to 159th from Parker, the sheriff's office said.

Both cars head heavy damage to the front end, the sheriff's office said.

According to police, the driver of the Mercedes was a 47-year-old man from Homer Glen and the passenger was his 12-year-old son. Police did not give the identity of the man and boy, but the description of their injuries matches the GoFundMe's description of the injuries Jared and Jayden suffered.

According to police, both were injured but conscious at the scene.

William Leffew, 44, of Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and using the wrong lane on a turn. Leffew agreed to a field sobriety test at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Leffew was charged and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. According to police, after a medical exam, he was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was treated for a broken clavicle. He was released and taken back to the jail.
