It's unclear what caused Piemonte to cross the center line. Police said it did not appear the driver of the tow truck—a 55-year-old man from Lockport—was impaired by drugs or alcohol, or texting at the time of the accident, according to the report. He was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Toxicology results on Piemonte are still pending. Police are still investigating and will include Piemonte's cell phone records in the process.
