Construction Continues In Downtown Lockport

Construction in downtown Lockport will ramp up for the summer months.

LOCKPORT, IL — With the arrival of the summer months, construction in downtown Lockport will soon ramp up. According to the city, the downtown project at State Street and Ninth Street is overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is intended to alleviate traffic congestion through downtown.

Project improvements include traffic signal replacement, reconstructing on-street parking, installing new streetscaping and more. The city said the project is currently in Stage 1 construction, and projects completed include all pre-staging steps and also a water main installation on the west side of State.

  • June 4 - curb and sidewalk preparation on west side of State, should be completed by June 11.
  • June 12 - Total reconstruction of State, including installing sidewalks, trees, railings, bike racks, drinking fountain and lighting. The project should be completed by Aug. 1, 2019.

According to the city, work will continue throughout the summer and fall and the last project completion date is listed as Aug. 1, 2019.
