D33C: Rudolph, DeFilippis, DeSchaaf, Chandarana Projected Winners
Incumbents DeFilippis and DeSchaaf are projected to retain their seats, and Rudolph and Chandarana are also projected winners.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Incumbents Karen DeFilippis and Kevin DeSchaaf and newcomer candidates Jennifer Rudolph and Melissa Chandarana are the projected winners of the District 33C Board of Education election.
Six candidates ran for four open positions as board members.

Tuesday's election results are unofficial until certified by the county on April 27. Provisional Ballots cast on Election Day and all late Vote By Mail Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted at Provisional Count on April 20, according to the county clerk's website.

DeFilippis and DeSchaaf are incumbent board members.
Rudolph has previously worked for General Motors. In her questionnaire, she cited the biggest issue facing the district as getting and making sure children are back in school safely.
DeFilippis is a retired teacher, and has been on the board since 2017. In her Patch questionnaire, she wrote that, "As we begin to bring some normalcy to our community and schools, our mission is to identify, measure, support and heal our children and teaching community over the next several years and into our future. "
DeSchaaf works in advertising and marketing, and wrote that returning to normalcy and addressing future growth are the most pressing issues facing the board.
Vacala is a police sergeant and would be a newcomer to the board. He wrote that "overcrowding of our schools is becoming a pressing issue."
"Class sizes are growing and the amount of children with special needs is also growing. We need to address this with the hiring of more staff, acquiring new land and/or buildings," he wrote in his questionnaire.
Chandarana, another newcomer candidate, is a business manager at a nonprofit. She wrote that the most pressing issue facing the board is also capacity constraints.
"My goal as a member of the 33C School Board will be to collaborate with the various stakeholders to help ensure we are prepared for future challenges," she wrote.
