Lockport Election: Streit Projected Winner Of Mayoral Race

HOMER GLEN-LOCKPORT, IL — Incumbent Mayor Steven Streit is projected to retain his position, and incumbent alderpersons Renee Saban, Christina Bergbower and Larry Schreiber are the projected winners of their wards as well.

In the ward 1 race, Karen Kostecki and Matt Kairis are the projected winners, although the margin of votes is very slim. Kostecki has 221 votes, Kairis has 216 and Jonathan Pugh received 206, according to Tuesday's unofficial results.

In Lockport, the city council is made up of the mayor, clerk, treasurer and eight alderpersons, who represent the four wards of the city. There are two alderpersons elected to represent each ward.

Tuesday's election results are unofficial until certified by the county on April 27. Provisional Ballots cast on Election Day and all late Vote By Mail Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted at Provisional Count on April 20, according to the county clerk's office.

Incumbent candidates include: Streit, Saban, Bergbower and Schreiber.

Perretta, who ran for mayor, is the current alderwoman for ward 4. According to her campaign website, Perretta has an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Perretta discusses "smart development" as one of her priorities on her campaign website. She also listed planning family-friendly activities as a priority.

Streit is the current mayor of Lockport and listed priorities of public safety, infrastructure, water quality improvement, downtown revitalization, and "hold[ing] the line on logistics/warehousing operations on new properties," on his campaign website.

Cornolo owns a travel agency in Lockport, and has served as president of the Lockport Rotary and Lockport Lions Club, according to his Facebook page.
